Since the State of Emergency was declared in Nova Scotia on March 22, 2020, we've been connecting with members weekly through our well-attended Wednesday Check-Ins through ZOOM video conferences. 

Each week, we connect with the mayors, wardens and CAOs from Sydney to Yarmouth to take the pulse of municipalities. We also invite special guests to take part, including Dr. Robert Strang, Chief Medical Officer of Health; Carole Saab, Executive Director, Policy & Public Affairs at Federation of Canadian Municipalities; and Kathy Gillis, CEO of Property Valuation Services Corporation. 

The largest event we have is our Fall Conference. At this conference attendees participate in our resolution session, voting on the most important matters impacting local governments across the province. There are opportunities to hear from provincial ministers and ask questions; to attend sessions on current areas of interest; to learn how other municipalities have succeeded in various matters, and to meet with other stakeholders, sponsors and tradeshow exibitors. The NSFM Board of Directors is also elected at this event. This year, our conference has been cancelled due to COVID-19, but we are exploring remote alternatives to provide a forum for members to learn and to host our Annual General Meeting.

The NSFM Spring Conference is our second largest event, and presents opportunities to gain information on various topics, hear from the Minister of Municipal Affairs, express concerns and opportunities with peers, discuss priorities and meet as caucuses.
