NSFM’s advocacy delivers tangible results for municipalities across Nova Scotia. Each milestone reflects the collective strength of municipal voices working together to achieve meaningful change.

🔁 Service Exchange Agreement (2023–24)
The renegotiated Service Exchange modernized outdated cost responsibilities between the Province and municipalities. The result: municipalities shed $16.7 million in annual costs related to Corrections and Social Housing—marking significant progress toward fairer, more sustainable funding.

♻️ Extended Producer Responsibility (2021)
Through persistent NSFM advocacy, producers—not municipalities—became responsible for recycling plastic packaging. This reform is projected to save municipalities $20–25 million annually while reducing waste and advancing environmental sustainability.

🏆 Safe Restart Agreement (2020)
When COVID-19 struck, municipalities faced a $66.5 million shortfall. NSFM led a lost revenue report that helped secure $67.5 million in federal funding to support municipal operations and recovery efforts—a critical win during an unprecedented time.
