Off Shore Wind Development
NSFM is committed to ensuring offshore wind (OSW) development is a sustainable and transformative opportunity for Nova Scotia municipalities.
Our recent letter to the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada outlines key municipal priorities for OSW: Click Here to View Letter
- Infrastructure readiness, from ports to social amenities.
- Municipal service capacity to support growth.
- Balancing OSW impacts with local tourism and heritage.
- Ensuring economic benefits are equitably distributed.
We urge governments to facilitate Impact and Benefit Agreements, ensuring that communities directly impacted by OSW development are sustainably supported.
NSFM welcomes collaboration to mitigate challenges and maximize opportunities for Nova Scotia municipalities. Let’s work together to shape a brighter future for our communities.
Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPOP) Review
- NSFM has expressed concerns about potential legislative changes to the FOIPOP Act and the Municipal Government Act that could impact municipalities. Click Here to View Letter
- Key concerns include the time, costs, and administrative burden these changes may place on municipalities, affecting their ability to serve the public effectively.
- NSFM has shared these concerns with both the Minister of Justice and the FOIPOP Act Review Working Group, which is considering recommendations from the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner.
- The Working Group is currently analyzing feedback and developing recommendations for government consideration, ensuring that potential impacts on municipalities and other public bodies are carefully weighed.
- NSFM continues to advocate for meaningful municipal engagement in the review process.
