Climate Risk Assessments - How the Province and Municipalities are Preparing for Climate Change Impacts
The impacts of climate change are real for Nova Scotians. Just in the last few years, Nova Scotians have experienced wildfires, hurricanes, drought, and flooding. These events harm human health, nature, the economy, and our quality of life.
Communities across Nova Scotia are leading the way in responding to this new reality. Climate change risk assessments help identify risks and opportunities to plan and act for more resilient communities. In 2025, the Province of Nova Scotia published its updated provincial Climate Change Risk Assessment. Municipalities like the Town of Truro are also building their own local climate risk assessments to prepare at the community level.
There is no single way to approach a climate risk assessment. This session explores provincial-level insights and methods and shares real examples of how local municipalities approach risk assessments to fit their unique needs.
