When a power outage happens, we know the impact it has on families and communities, particularly in severe weather events. At Nova Scotia Power, we take a safety-first approach to outage restoration. Each step in our process is designed to make sure power can safely be restored to customers while minimizing further interruptions during the event.
We restore power in phases, focusing first on critical public infrastructure and emergency situations, ensuring that public safety takes top priority. Our second area of priority is then critical electrical infrastructure. In order to restore power to homes and businesses, our transmission lines and substation infrastructure must be in sound operating condition.
Next, our crews focus their attention on main electrical feeders that service communities and neighbourhoods. This is why you may see trucks on your street or in your neighbourhood and not yet have power restored to your home. They are working to restore equipment in the area in order to get as many homes on as quickly as possible.
From there, we restore service to powerlines servicing individual streets.
These steps ensure the safe delivery of power to the area before final individual homes and businesses can be connected. Individual homes and businesses may have unique circumstances requiring attention from crews and, repairs to customer-owned equipment like meter masts.
At Nova Scotia Power, our team is dedicated to communities across the province, who depend on us to power their days. With increasingly severe and frequent storms, we are prepared to respond to outages and restore power as quickly and safely as possible for our customers.
