About the Series

NSFM is pleased to introduce Municipal Connections: Conversations on Resource & Energy Development, a series of information sessions designed to help municipalities connect directly with provincial departments and other partners involved in Nova Scotia’s energy and natural resources sectors.

These sessions will provide opportunities for municipal leaders and staff to learn more about emerging developments, ask questions, and better understand how resource and energy initiatives may intersect with local communities.

Mining in Nova Scotia: An Overview for Municipalities
September 28 | 12:00–1:30 p.m.
The Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources will provide an overview of the mining process in Nova Scotia, from exploration through reclamation, including permitting and current mining activity in the province.

Introduction to the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO)
October 1 | 12:00–1:00 p.m.
The IESO will provide an introduction to its role in Nova Scotia’s electricity sector, its responsibilities, and what its work means for municipalities.

Critical and Strategic Minerals Atlas: An Interactive Tutorial for Municipalities
October 19 or October 28 | 12:00–12:45 p.m.
The Department of Natural Resources will provide an interactive tutorial on the Critical and Strategic Minerals Atlas, an online mapping tool municipalities can use to explore known mineral occurrences and deposits in Nova Scotia. The same session will be offered on both dates; participants only need to attend one.

This series is intended for municipal elected officials and municipal staff interested in learning more about resource and energy development in Nova Scotia and how these topics may affect local communities.
